afternoon off

Today was a great release:  the first day off of teaching for the semester, the day the landlord finished replacing the kitchen counter and sink (which was 3 days of no dishes, cooking, laundry, or leaving the house)  I feel completely better after having a weird fever the other day - AND my mom took the kids for several hours this afternoon.  I drove straight from her house to the guitar shop where my brother works and bought a Fender Bullet and a little amp kit.  I was so excited!
I got an email from the editor of a local magazine today asking if I could be their featured artist in the winter issue.  I was really excited about that, too.  I went to the library ALONE and picked out geography books and (fun books on CD) for our road trip.  I chatted with the ladies from work outside.  I went home and broke out the paints.  I spread everything out and the set the wax to warm then walked across the street in my painted overalls and had some enchiladas.  I imagined I was a solitary urban artist who painted all day and didn't cook.  I came home, pushed paint around, talked to the women who are closest to me about how they can't find work.

I'D LIKE TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO MY GOOD FRIEND WENDY!
I LOVE YOU - YOU'RE AWESOME!

I relaxed.  Then my kids came home.  Like someone (wild monkeys) sneaking up on you in the dark (of you relaxedness.)  I saw clearly why I never usually get things done and felt very grateful for my 5 hours of awesomeness.
